Why are Posts Shadowbanned?
Posts are typically shadowbanned for various reasons, such as:
- Suspected adult content.
- Extremely vulgar language, such as slurs.
- Other content that may violate X's terms of service.
This is not an exhaustive list, mind you, but some of the most common reasons that posts are deboosted and restricted from being embedded.
How Does the Shadowban Affect My Post?
Posts that are shadowbanned typically have their reach reduced or are "deboosted." This means that your post cannot be embed outside X and is less likely to be seen by other users, including your followers. To ensure your followers see your posts, you should encourage them to do the following:
- Ask your followers to click the "bell" button on your profile, so that they can be notified of new posts from you.
- Ask your followers to enable "Recent" sorting for posts in the "Following" tab on the homepage, so that they see posts from accounts they're following in chronological order rather than the AI determining what posts they see. (Click: Home > Following > Recent)
- If you post adult content, ask your followers to opt to view sensitive content. (More > Settings > Privacy and Safety > Content you see > Display media that may contain sensitive content)
While this will help your followers see your posts, non-followers are less likely to see your post if it does get shadowbanned.
How Can I Avoid My Post Being Shadowbanned?
Posts get flagged by X's AI for various reasons as stated in the first section. Here are some tips for avoiding a shadowban on your posts:
- For posts being flagged for adult content, try reducing the amount of skin visible or cropping your image. Additionally, you can post the full image off-site.
- Avoid using extremely vulgar language, such as slurs.
- Follow X's terms of service and avoid breaking any rules that could potentially restrict your post's visibility.
Disclaimer
This tool mainly checks for if your post can be embedded outside of Twitter/X or not. In most cases, not being able to embed your post means that it has been hit with a shadowban and thus has reduced reach, especially outside of your follower circle. There may be instances where your post can be embedded, but is shadowbanned for another reason, such as an account label which we cannot detect. Furthermore, even though your post may be hit with a shadowban, it can still possibly be seen by others if enough people share it.
TL;DR
Can embed = Good, most likely not shadowbanned.
Cannot embed = Bad, most likely shadowbanned. Severity of deboost depends on content.
Basically, this tool gives you a rough idea of your post's status and you can use this result to determine if you want to repost your post or not.
